A lot of strange acts are illegal in Singapore, and the punishments given are notorious for being pretty harsh. My friend was flogged for having fun with graffiti (not that I condone his actions).
I would be pissed. I always chew gum.
As for the friend getting flogged, if it was my friend I would make fun of him for so long.
I use to chew gum a lot. Now I just chew it occasionally, which is weird 'cause I truly was a gum addict.
